Summer of Pink

I have really embraced pink this summer! I am usually too self conscious because of my fair skin, but this summer, I have been all about the pink! I recently purchased this Britt Ryan dress for $50 from their online Sample Sale.

I went simple with the jewelry for this one including these new Tory Burch Pearl Studs

And I added this Stella & Dot necklace which I received as a recent bridesmaid's gift.

I hear burgundy is in for fall. I will be embracing the pink while I can!

Neiman Marcus Last Call Sale Finds

I know there has been a lot of hype around the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale recently, but I happen to be a bigger fan of the Neiman Marcus Last Call Sale. I popped in at the start of the sale and grabbed this Navy Lace Gaviota Dress by Trina Turk. It was originally $298 and I paid $93 in the store! (The sale is online through today and they are taking an additional 25% off purchases.) I think I am going to wear the dress to a wedding over Labor Day Weekend. May have to splurge on this clutch to go with it.

I picked up these two dresses at the sale!
(Mom, I promise they were cheaper in stores than online!)

Navy Polka Dot Shorts

On my recent trip to Chicago where I grabbed this Striped Navy Blazer from Zara, I also found the most perfect navy polka dot shorts. I have what I like to call "athletic thighs" so I always find it difficult to shop for shorts. These are perfect! With it feeling like 100+ most days, I try to keep my outfits as light as possible. The hot pink silk cami from J. Crew is so light, I am pondering going back for more since I feel like August is only going to get hotter.

PS. When I was home in Florida, I did a little bit of pattern play with the shorts. You can never have too much navy.

Learning to Say NO!

One of the tougher lessons I have learned has been the value of saying "No."

I have a tendency to want to take on everything asked of me and do it all perfectly. (Read more about my lessons on perfection here.) But somewhere along the lines of teaching full time, tutoring part time, volunteering with my church, joining the Junior League, running in a running club, participating in FG4L, and serving on TFA committees, I reached my breaking point.

I had signed up for all of these commitments out of enjoyment but with so many things going on, they simply turned into items to check off a never ending to do list. I finished out my commitments and decided in 2014 that I was only going to focus on two. This was so hard for me to do because I really felt like I was "quitting." I worried about what the people within these organizations would think of me and if I would let them down.

As hard as it was, I picked my two commitments and the balance is so much more. Things that used to be just an item on the to do list, I once again look forward to and am able to commit myself more fully.

It's one of those tougher life skills to learn as sometimes it can be challenging to say no especially when the opportunities are so tempting. There are so many things that I care about and honestly, I wish I could do it all. But I know, that in order to do my best, I sometimes have to say no or at least "not right now."

Happy Hump Day!

All White

I've always loved the all white look especially during the summer. Though I was an admirer of the style, I avoided it due to the paleness of my skin and looked on as my friends of the tanner variety embraced it.

Well, no more avoiding white for me. This summer, I have loved wearing all white.

I love this Lola Top by YT Clothing and all of their tops in Ivory pair nicely with bright white bottoms.

I added a little nude with this skinny J.Crew belt. (Old, but here is a newer option.)

Similar look with white jeans and this Madewell top.

Here is a little throwback to last summer when I first embraced the all white look and posted my first #ootd mirror pic!

Labor Day will be here before you know it, wear white while you can.

Tortoise Shell Everything

I have a confession to make. I am obsessed with all things tortoise. Until recently, I always thought tortoise accessories looked better on blondes and were harder for brunettes to pull off. It started with a pair of Kate Spade sunglasses, then Tory Burch ones, then a Loren Hope bracelet, YT earrings, and well now I can't stop. I found myself browsing the internet and admiring the many tortoise shell accessory options and thought I would share some of my favorites here.

I will start with my favorites because well, they happened to be named after me!
How cute are these Danielle Earrings from YT?

I don't have this Tortoise Chain necklace by Tuckernuck but I know it would make a great addition to my accessory collection.

I agree with Mackenzie, these Tortoiseshell Bangles are timeless.

I actually have two pairs of tortoise shell sunglasses. The first pair were Kate Spade that I purchased a few years ago and thought they were gone forever when a screw fell out. Out of desparation, I rushed to the mall and when Kate Spade did not have any other tortoise options, I purchased a very similar pair from Tory Burch. A few months later, I found the missing screw to repair the Kates and voila, I now have two very similar pairs of tortoise shell sunglasses. (Not a bad problem to have.) Both are no longer available but these Kate Spade options would make a great addition to my collection!

I love changing phone cases and well I feel my phone is in need of this Tory Burch beauty!

Hope you enjoyed my finds. Have you seen any fun tortoise shell pieces lately?

Danielle

Happy Birthday Mom & Dad

I take gift giving very seriously. Probably overly so. I want the gift to be meaningful, personal, and original. Sometimes, I over think it so  much, I run out of time and have to go with something generic and then feel terrible about my mediocre gift.

My parents were born in the same hospital, one day apart. I usually combine their birthday gifts because trying to find a deeply personal, creative gift times two is way too stressful. I've planned special things in the past but I really feel like this year's gift set the bar high. I was thinking about how we have NEVER (and I mean NEVER) had professional photos done of our family. (Self taking photo booths do not count!) Since my family loves photos, I hired a professional photographer to come and take pictures while Hens and I were home for the 4th of July.

I searched around online for various Jacksonville photographers that specialize in dogs and found Petra and immediately loved her pictures. Once I read she she gives a portion of proceeds to animal rescues, I know she was a match! I thought about various locations around Jacksonsville but decided that our home would be best so the boys would be comfortable.

It was a blast! Unfortunately, the boys got tired really quickly (it was above 100 that morning) and so we did quite a few photos of my parents with their greatest gift, ME! :)

(Henry has difficulty sharing. I don't know where he gets it!)

I wore my favorite J.Crew Scalloped Dress, Mom was in an older Lilly Dress, and Dad was in Brooks Brothers. The boys had on their matching navy bow ties from Pecan Pie Puppies

Hopefully you enjoy the pictures as much as we do! Happy (late) birthday Mom and Padre!

Striped Blazer

I was in Chicago a few weeks ago and spent some time shopping along Michigan Avenue. While most of the shopping was window shopping, I was very excited to go into Zara. I always see the cutest things online but we don't have one in Charlotte. They happened to be having a huge sale that weekend  and the first thing I saw when I walked in, was this navy and white striped blazer. (Remember how much I love a blazer.)  Of course, I was in heaven!

Since there are so many summer sales going on right now, I can't stop thinking of all of the possibilities for my new blazer.
